ENID, Okla. - After 5 months of hard work, dedication, and revisions, AD ASTRA is finally available to watch online! The short film was written and directed by local filmmaker, Patrick Wine and took the efforts of almost 50 cast members, crew and film help. Movie size posters and smaller versions are also now available for sale.
-
Patrick Wine isn't your typical 18-year-old high school graduate. He's a hungry filmmaker and photographer that knew what his career path was going to be back in middle school. Patrick loved photography and filmmaking so much he started his own company before even reaching high school.
-
In 2013, Patrick's family moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where he participated in media productions classes, photographed sporting events, and filmed a variety projects, including the state recognized "Lip Dub" in which the entire Enid High student body and faculty participated in a one shot video throughout the school.
-
Patrick has worked as a photographer and cinematographer/videographer for several different organizations and business, including GEFCO, Visit Enid, Main Street Enid, Fireball Run Adventuralley (TV Series), KJ Filmworks, Skeleton Creek Productions ("Canyon Trail"), Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, Loaves & Fishes NWOK, Enid Public Schools, Enid Television Network, Fly Film Festival, and more.
-
In August of 2016, Patrick will attend the University Of Colorado Boulder to study Film Production and minor or double major in astronomy, aeronautical engineering, or environmental science as part of his film aspirations. But before his departure from Enid, Patrick took on his first short film project which was filmed partly in Enid using local talent.
-
"Ad Astra" is a short film created by Patrick for the CineSpace Short Film Competition. CineSpace is a collaboration between NASA and Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS) that offers filmmakers around the world a chance to share their works inspired by, and using, actual NASA imagery. Films featuring real NASA footage collected from over 50 years of its history will be judged on the creativity, innovation, and attention to detail that are the hallmarks of spaceflight.
-
Ad Astra is a popular Latin phrase meaning "through hardships to the stars". The phrase is one of the many Latin sayings that use the expression ad astra "to the stars". The short film looks into the life of Scott (Scout) Ryker, an average teenager, eager to do anything other than what he is supposed to do. He had no plans for his future, and frankly, didn't care. After his U.S. History teacher assigns him a summer project, his entire universe changes. Follow Scout's journey, told by Scout himself, as he discovers his destiny lies in the stars, and what that means for you.
-
Winners of the short film contest will be announced and screened along with all finalists at Houston Cinema Arts Festival, November 10-17, 2016. We have the official trailer for the short film below. See if you recognize any of the locations or actors.
-
On August 1, AD ASTRA was named an "Official Selection" at the All American High School Film Festival and will screen at the New York AMC theatre in Times Square! Wine is also looking to get the film into the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.
