RALEIGH, NC - Are you an aspiring farmer that can't afford to buy farm land? One farm owner in North Carolina is searching for a couple of deserving farmers that believe there is no better calling in life than raising organic food. You'll need to have experience, training and must be willing and able to put in the long days and hard work that farming requires.
-
Norma Burns, owner of Bluebird Hill Farm, is sponsoring an essay contest for qualified couples. The essay contest may be entered by committed couples only. The Bluebird Hill Farm owners say, “experience has shown that Bluebird Hill Farm can’t be operated successfully by a single individual.”
-
Qualifications include at least one member of the entrants must be between the ages of 25 and 50, to ensure that the winning couple has the life experience and physical stamina that active farming requires. One member of the couple must also be a Citizen of the United States or a Permanent Resident.
-
Before submitting an entry, each entrant should read the winners' conditions listed on the website. If you feel you cannot meet the conditions, you should not enter the contest. The website also has many photos of the farm, house, property and furnishings.
-
All couples need to fill out an entry form and submit a 200 word essay on the subject: "Why We Want to Own and Operate Bluebird Hill Farm". You must also submit single-page resumes for each partner that describe experience and skills you've acquired that are relevant to operating an organic farm.
-
Burns will not be the one judging the contest. A panel of judges, including an attorney, a conservationist and an agriculture professional will choose the winners.
-
The owner of the farm will make their money through a $300 entry fee that is required to enter the contest. If a sufficient number of entries are received, the winner will not only get the farm, they'll also receive $50,000 in cash to be used for transition costs.
-
The winning couple will receive Certificate of title, free and clear, the Bluebird Hill Farm, a USDA Certified Organic Farm near Raleigh, NC. The 12.88 acre organic farm has been evaluated at $450,000.00; however, no representation is made that this value represents a Fair Market Value. The farm is subject to a permanent Agricultural Conservation Easement.
-
You must submit your questions through the Bluebird Hill Farm Facebook page. The Bluebird Hill Farm owners have no time for answering the phone, answering emails, or receiving visitors.
-
The farm is located in Bennett, NC. Entries must be mailed and postmarked no later than June 1, 2017. Learn more at www.bluebirdhillfarmessaycontest.com.
