Willow Road Is Now Open

ENID, OK - West Willow Road is now open! Construction started on February 13, 2017 and was completed on August 17, 2018 in four phases. The major part of the widening was completed in June of 2018 but there was a delay at the railroad crossing which only allowed for two lanes to be open.
-
According to Chris Gdanski, Director of Engineering for the city of Enid, “for the past few weeks BNSF crews have been installing and testing the railroad crossing safety equipment on Willow.”  Gdanski said the work is complete and Willow Road is open.
-
City officials said the speed limit is 45 mph and encourage motorists to drive safely on Enid’s newest road improvement.
-
Willow Road, once a two lane road, has been widened to a four lane road with a walking/bike trail on the north side and a sidewalk on the south side. The new four lane runs from Oakwood to Cleveland. There were also irrigation and storm drain improvements completed as well.
-
Phase one began on February 13, 2017 west of Cleveland approximately 200 feet and extended to Nicholas Oaks. Nicholas Oaks is a subdivision with only one entrance and exit therefor one half of its entrance was done at a time.
-
Phase two occurred east of Oakwood Road and went approximately 500 feet to Sleepy Hollow Drive.
-
Phase three of the project ran from Woodlands Drive to Nicholas Oaks. This was originally going to be phase four.
-
Phase four went from east of Sleepy Hollow Drive to Woodlands Drive. Woodlands is also a subdivision with only one entrance and exit. The west side of Woodlands Drive entrance was blocked to residents during construction.
-
There was an incentive program in place for this project at $2,000 per day with a maximum of 50 days of incentives. The total incentive exposure was $100,000. The incentive was to reduce the street closure from 270 days to 220 days. Due to the holidays and local shopping, the project was delayed for several weeks.

Man, the need to get on the ball. It is taking way too long to widen the road that is about 1 mile stretch. It completely defeats the purpose to reopen it at 25 miles an hour. Before we know it, it will be two years since Willow Road was passable at the normal unsafe driving conditions. Sad.
