Mass of Christian burial for William Joseph Semrad, 92 will be 2:30 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Bison, Ok. Viewing will be at 1:30 in the Church entry. Burial will be in Bison cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
William [Willie] Semrad was born to Frantisek Vaclav [Frank] and Francis a Semrad [Krejci] January 13, 1924 in Marshall Oklahoma and died October 16, 2016. He married Patricia Georgia Semrad [Fuksa] August 1947. They made their home on a farm at Douglas Oklahoma where he farmed wheat land, had a dairy and did custom cutting wheat. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bison Ok., Knights of Columbus, Shriners, and VFW. He was a veteran of World War II he was injured in a tank explosion in the Black Forest and recovered and a hospital in France. He was too excited to get home and did not wait on the Purple Heart.
He is survived by Tamara Gatten and husband Jeffrey, of Yukon, Oklahoma, Kellen Semrad, of Douglas, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, and brothe Joe Semrad of Galesburg, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Francis Semrad, three sisters Agnes Parker, Beatrice Schubert and Mary McCarthy, brothers Adolph, Wenceslas, George, Edward, Bernard, Emil, and Robert Semrad. Mary and Mike Johnson were his caregivers at the farm in Douglas and were with Willie when he peacefully passed. Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
