Weather Channel Broadcasts From Enid

ENID, OK - The Weather Channel picked Enid, Oklahoma as one of their locations to update live from during this weekends ice storm. Meteorologist Mike Seidel brought his crew to town to broadcast live updates throughout the day. They started from the gazebo in downtown Enid without much weather to cover.

Enid dodged the bullet from freezing precipitation for much of the morning and afternoon. The rain finally arrived in late afternoon while the temps were right at or above freezing. Water droplets began to freeze on cars, trees and power lines after sunset.

The Weather Channel crew moved their location to Oakwood Mall before they went on air at 8:00 pm Saturday night. They spoke with OG&E officials and conducted their broadcast in front of the rows of bucket trucks lining the parking lot near the old Sears.

Enid Buzz caught up with Seidel right after his live 8:00 pm segment. Seidel explained that they had been in Enid since late Friday and had driven 300 miles from Springfield, Missouri. Seidel told me, "They've got 359 trucks here in the mall and they also have almost 700 crew members from 7 states so, this is the biggest grouping, they've got a camp here, one in Woodward and one in Oklahoma City. So, OG&E, well setup, they started putting this together earlier in the week."
-
Seidel also told me The Weather Channel would be broadcasting from Enid from 5:00 am to 10:00 am on Sunday. He said they would likely be back at the square. Seidel has been with The Weather Channel since March 1992. He is noted for his field reporting from breaking weather including severe weather, hurricanes and snowstorms.
