ENID, OK - The Ward family has promised to match up to $1 million for all donations made to the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center's $5 million endowment campaign. The matching donation offer was made in honor of Lew Ward who loved Oklahoma history was a big backer of the Heritage Center.
-
Lew Ward played a major role in the $8 million capital and endowment campaign in 2005. Myra Ward is currently the honorary campaign steering committee chair. The Ward family hopes this will help encourage others to donate to the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation endowment.
-
The endowment was created through the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation to help retain the top level staff positions of Education Director, Curator and Archivist of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.
-
A goal of the capital campaign was to reach $5 million to support the operations of the Heritage Center. One of the ways donors can help grow the endowment is to remember the Heritage Center in their wills. The endowment is administered through the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation.
-
Donors giving over $10,000 to the Heritage Center endowment have the opportunity to have a named fund through the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation. The named fund will be listed in the Foundation's publications.
-
The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, a property of the Oklahoma Historical Society, tells the story of the largest land run in American history. The 1893 Land Run, settlement and development of northwest Oklahoma is explored through the Heritage Center's five permanent exhibit galleries.
