Our Angel on Earth went to her heavenly home on January 4th 2023. A service of remembrance celebrating the life and love of Walterean Riekenberg will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Reber officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with family will be January 6th, 2023, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home from 6-7 p.m.
Walterean Jean (Diveley) Riekenberg, of Enid passed away at the age of 87. She was born on December 11, 1935 at Villa Madonna in Enid to Everette and Midoline (Williams) Diveley.
Walterean was crowned Homecoming Football Queen in 1953 at Covington High School. She was also a member of Future Homemakers of America, cheerleader and senior class President. She graduated in 1954.
January 1, 1954, Walterean married Richard Lee Riekenberg of Fairmont. They were married 62 years.
After getting married, the couple moved to Lawton, OK, where she was a military wife and worked at Cress. After 2 years, they moved to Wichita, KS., where Walterean worked in a nursing home.
By now the family had grown to include two sons and a daughter. Next, they moved to Hutchinson, KS where they owned and operated Steamatic Carpet Cleaning business.
In 1971, Walterean and the family moved to Enid to be closer to family. Walterean was a paraprofessional in the Enid Public Schools from 1972-2013. Her love and passion was for children with special needs.
Her hobbies and interests included family, OSU Cowboy sports, traveling, collecting cookbooks, rodeos and fishing. Her favorite song was “White Christmas”. Walterean said her favorite childhood memory was “when the boys selected me Football Homecoming Queen”.
Walterean had a very strong faith and believed in the power of prayer. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Walterean was preceded in death by her husband, son Michael, Uncle Walter, who she is named after and dear nephew Kelly Cramer.
She is survived by daughter Brenda Woodford and husband Steve, son Terry Riekenberg, daughter-in-law Karen Riekenberg; grandchildren, Douglas Woodford and wife, Jamie, and DeeNa’; great-grandchildren Adylee (who was born on Waltereans’ 78th birthday), twins Graham and Ainsley, Miranda and husband Roberto, Ayden and Asher; great-great grandchildren AnnaLene, Amery and Mateo; two sisters, Sharoll Kay Kegin and Linda Beck. Also, precious cousins Hadley, John and Lynn Hall, Tip Burch and Dottie Diveley, special friends Gene/Christine Hollrah, Sarah Ryel, Nicole Decker and many many other family/friends. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church LWML, 4RKids or to the donors choice. Please wear RED in honor of Walterean. Red was her favorite color.
