Graveside services for Virginia Root will be private. Public visitation will be Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home from 8 am to 9:00 pm.

Virginia was born September 2, 1927 in Giles, Texas, the daughter of Alvin and Hattie Story Stotts. She passed away July 29, 2017. She was a graduate of Enid High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Mayo T. Root Sr. on April 20, 1946 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Mayo preceded her in death in August of 1969. She was employed by DHS in Kingfisher and also in Enid as a case worker and later retired as a State Supervisor for DHS in Oklahoma City. Virginia was also employed by St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center as a nurse’s aide. After retirement, she continued to volunteer at St. Mary’s and as the editor of the St. Mary’s Newsletter. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and the American Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and caring for her flowers. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia M. Oblander of Kingfisher, Beverly B. George of Enid, three sons, Robert Mayo Root (Linda) of Marshall, Arkansas, Edward Alan Root (Karen) of Red Rock, Oklahoma and Mayo T. Root Jr. of Enid, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many extended family members. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
