ENID, OK - The City of Enid reminds residents of the upcoming discontinuation of the Green Yard Waste Cart program. The program was initially suspended in October 2022 and will be officially discontinued on March 1, 2024.
Our commitment to our community has been the driving force behind this decision. After thorough evaluation, it became evident that the Green Yard Waste Cart program was no longer aligned with its intended purpose. The program has faced challenges, with several of its operational functions being discontinued over several years. To ensure both our city's financial sustainability and environmental stewardship, we are exploring alternative ways to process materials at the landfill. Furthermore, the program was causing financial and operational strains without an adequate fee structure to support it.
As we move forward, we want to ensure a smooth transition for our residents. Here are the key changes:
Green Yard Waste Carts: We have not sold new green yard waste carts since October of 2022. If you require additional capacity for any kind of solid waste, including yard waste, you can add a blue cart for a nominal fee of $5.50 per month, each.
Current Green Yard Waste Cart Holders: If you currently possess a green yard waste cart, you have several options:
• Residents can keep the green yard waste cart and repurpose it for private needs, such as storage of materials or animal feed.
• Residents can continue to use the green yard waste cart for solid waste services with an additional pickup fee of $4 per pickup per cart by contacting the Solid Waste department.
• If residents no longer have a use for their green yard waste cart, our Solid Waste department staff will gladly come and collect it free of charge.
• Please note that the City of Enid has not purchased green yard waste carts since October of 2022, and cannot repair or replace damaged carts.
NOTE: No other customer services will be affected by this change.
The City of Enid is dedicated to excellent customer service and efficient use of public resources.
If residents have any additional questions or comments, please contact the City of Enid Solid Waste Department at 580-616-7300.
Here’s a crazy idea, how about we keep it and use it for garbage or grass which are both now considered GARBAGE!! This is about the most absurd solution to anything ever. No charges no directive, use the green one for anything, done deal.
