What Interested Buzz Heads The Most In 2015?

Enid Buzz is "The Premiere Online Media Source of Lifestyle News & Events for NW Oklahoma" which means all of our stories are social media driven. Although we have a popular website and are on several social media platforms, Facebook is the platform with the highest amount of engagement.
-
Due to its high engagement of Likes, Shares, Clicks, and Comments, Facebook is the main source we used for determining our top stories of 2015. High Twitter stats were also taken into consideration in the top stories. Because we are a lifestyle driven media source, some of our most popular posts are not news related. The number one post of the year completely surprised us.

These are the top posts as determined by you in 2015! Some are happy, some sad, and many you'd expect. There are a few that even surprised us including the top two. A snapshot of the actual post is on the left and the final stat count is on the right. Posts are listed from smaller reach to biggest reach at the bottom. Enjoy!

We had a few different vehicles drive into buildings this year. The fact that this one reached more people is due to the fact that it was a video. This happened in Westgate at Finer Physiques in February. No one was hurt in the accident.

Food trucks were all the rage in 2015. Enid Events put together the first ever Red Brick Road Food Truck Festival and it was a hit on social media. 1,680 people clicked the link to read more about this story which drove its popularity.

The Maine Street Bridge is always a popular subject, especially when it eats a truck. Several trucks slammed into the bridge in 2015 and all were documented with photos. Even with the teeth painted on the bridge, drivers continued to ignore the fact that it is a low bridge. This one just happened to have the most reach.

A random photo of the day that I received sparked a lot of interest. Drivers all over Enid have spotted this guy carrying a cross and many people were curious as to the purpose. This is James Followingjesus Baker, a guy out spreading the word of Jesus. This post had a lot of shares at 546.

Pam Ballard at the Enid United Way started a Day of Kindness in Enid in 2014 where she went around doing good deeds for unsuspecting people. We, as Enid Buzz, travel around helping document the event each year. This year the Leadership Greater Enid class donated a Bench of Awesomeness to Garfield Elementary. This video documented the festivities.

It's not every day you see a big crack in a building, especially the tallest building in Enid. We were sent this photo and almost didn't post it due to having other things set to post. Once we broke the story of the crack on social media it went crazy. KFOR in OKC even sent a reporter to interview several of us about the crack. They were wondering if the damage could have been caused by earthquakes. The building was even evacuated and temporarily closed after the bricks fell.

What are the odds that Enid Buzz would be the first on the scene of Enid's biggest pothole? I happened to be driving down W. Cherokee on my way to cover a story when I drove directly over this sink hole. I stopped, took a few pics and called police. The hole was quickly barricaded and eventually patched.

Enid lost two patriots in 2015 that were escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. Local residents lined the streets and waved flags as the soldiers were brought back to Enid for burial. Enid Buzz covered both escorts with video. This was a video for the escort of MSG Josh Toone.

2015 saw some pretty bad ice storms which led to some pretty bad wrecks. This one was captured on top of the N. Van Buren overpass. The driver lost control and smashed the concrete barrier knocking it off the bridge. A second storm just this week caused a second driver to knock out another section of concrete on the bridge.

We are puzzled as to why this one reached so many people but the clicks to the article helped drive the reach. There must be a new generation of local residents that had never been over to the salt flats at Salt Plains for crystal digging. This was a big road trip for us as kids.

Enid loves new businesses! You can tell by the reach of this post that Enid is looking forward to Academy Sports & Outdoors coming to Enid in 2016. The new store will take the place of the old Walmart on W. Garriott.

As the shooting event in Enid was unfolding it was unclear as to what was going on. Social media helped drive speculation and rumors which caused this to panic many residents. Looking back we know it was a disgruntled employee that was out shooting car windows to get back at his boss. At the time it seemed much more ominous which can be seen in the 1,163 comments. That propelled this post to #3 in the rankings. Follow up posts on this event also had high numbers which if added together would make this the number one story of the year.

An employee alerted me that El Chico had closed without warning. I ran over, snapped this pic and was the first to report the news. I was surprised this post had the reach it did but I think it was the combination of the surprise closing and the fact the employees were not given notice. This post had 2,566 comments which helped drive it to the #2 spot with a reach of 117,068.

Pine Cones were #1! Who knew? I found this pic on another Facebook post and thought it was very cool. I figured a few people would enjoy it but I never dreamed it would be the post with the most people reached in 2015. This single post reached 121,469 people mostly due to the 6,317 shares.
