Stephen W. Spleth

Stephen W. Spleth of Medford, OK, died Thursday, Oct. 19. 2017, at the age of 69, in Enid, Oklahoma.

Steve was born October 21, 1947, to Billie Jo and Duard Spleth of Waukomis, Oklahoma. He graduated from Waukomis High School in 1965 and from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agriculture Economics. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He worked for the Farmer’s Home Administration in Purcell, Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Terry Lee Crowley. They were married on February 19, 1972. In 1973, Steve was transferred to the Grant County Farmer’s Home Administration in Medford. He later served as Vice President and President of the First National Bank of Medford, as well as Grant County Assessor in 2004.

Steve and Terry welcomed a son, Joshua Tyler Spleth in 1991. Steve farmed near Lamont for several years and took over the family farming in Waukomis in 2004. He was a loving and loyal caregiver to his wife, who passed in 2007. Steve was active in his community, a regular at the local coffee shop, loved hunting and was a die-hard OSU sports fan. He was a 32nd-degree Mason in Medford Masonic Lodge 108, serving as past master for several years and in many other positions. He was also past Commander of the Ponca City Commandery, Oklahoma York Right.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife Terry and his father Duard Spleth. He is survived by son Joshua of Ft. Worth TX, mother Billie Jo Spleth of Guthrie OK, brother Jim Spleth and wife Loretta Spleth of Enid, sister Ellen Beer and husband Greg Beer of Guthrie, sister Jo Lou Spleth of Phoenix AZ, and 14 nieces and nephews.

Viewing will take place on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Amy Stittsworth Funeral Home in Enid, 2420 N. Washington St. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. in Medford OK at the First Baptist Church of Medford with Bobby Smith officiating under the kind guidance of the Stittsworth Funeral Service, Medford.

Ever true to his love of farming, Steve always knew the price of wheat. On October 19, 2017, wheat closed at $3.42.
