The SSKC was formed in 1943 with 12 original members. Membership now averages 25-30 members. The SSKC's first annual all-breed dog show was held May 16, 1944 in Convention Hall. Two judges were present. Fewer than 300 dogs were judged. Dog shows have been held annually in Enid since with entries steadily increasing.

In 1973, the Dog Show was moved to Garfield County Fairgrounds when Enid experienced a flood. Currently the SSKC holds back-to-back dog shows and obedience trials in October, with entries averaging 950 dogs daily. 1997 marked the first year the show was held in the new Chisholm Trail Pavilion.
