Enid Main Street calls impromptu downtown snowball fight
What city calls out its citizens to join in on a city wide snowball fight? Downtown Enid, Oklahoma does, that's who!! Which is just another one of the reasons Enid is such a great place to live.
On a whim, Kelly Tompkins, Main Street Director and President-Elect, John Arend decided it would be fun to throw out a snowball fight challenge. The call to action was posted on Facebook and within minutes it was being shared and talked about not only in Enid but across the country. Residents were instructed to show up at the downtown courthouse lawn for a little snowball throwing and snow angel creating.
With only a few hours notice there was enough snow left on the grass to attract a couple of dozen Enid participants. Made up mostly of kids there were also some rather prominent citizens involved. Jamie Davis from Lola's Boutique was there along with Corey Groendyke, the director of the Enid Farmers Market and her snowball making gadgets. Frank Baker, head of Eagle Marketing took a quick look and scurried off to warmer surroundings. Curtis Tucker from Enid Buzz snapped pictures while Ty Tompkins filmed for Best Day Studios.
A few kids rolled snowball building blocks for a snowman while others got pulled around the lawn on sleds. One gentleman in a cowboy hat laughed out loud every time he pelted someone with a snowball. Even the paparazzi felt the wrath of a snowball or two. The only thing missing was an extra supply of gloves and a hot chocolate vendor. Could this be the beginning of team snowball fights in downtown Enid? Only time will tell.
All in all it was down right freezing but well worth the effort. Five years from now those that participated will be talking about the snowy day they ran downtown to have a city wide snowball fight. That's why Enid has so much charm. That's why there's always something to do in Enid. Thanks to Main Street Enid, thanks to those that showed up and thank goodness I live in Enid, Oklahoma!
