U.S. Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) was in Enid for a local press Q&A session Wednesday, July 1 at 4:45 pm at Autry Technology Center. Earlier in the day Sen. Lankford had stopped in Kingfisher, Okeene and other towns along the way.

Sen. Lankford made himself available to the local media while touring northwest Oklahoma. Members of the press from Enid Buzz, KOFM and the Enid News and Eagle were on hand and asked the Senator several questions that have an affect on this part of the country.
-
Despite having a raspy voice Sen. Lankford pulled up a chair and was open to all concerns. When asked about the ISIS threat during this years July 4th festivities Lankford explained that there were no credible threats to American citizens. He did say that although ISIS is not organized in the U.S. they do have the ability to inspire U.S. citizens, that are like minded, to carry out terrorist activities. He also reiterated that ISIS likes to have attacks planned around holidays and big crowds.
-
Lankford also spoke about legislation coming down the pike that will affect small businesses in Oklahoma and around the country. He told us that the new rules coming out next year from Obamacare will have a dramatic affect on hiring and how much small businesses can pay people.
-
Lankford touched on the Trade Promotion Authority. He stated that, "One in five of the jobs in Oklahoma have some kind of connection to trade." He feels the need for Oklahoma to increase the number of people that take our products, whether it be wheat, beef, pork, poultry or cotton, which are all major exports.
-
We are opening up fields in Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Canada, Mexico and Japan, which are big markets for our oil field products, Lankford explained. He felt the passing of the Trade Promotion Authority was a big win that allows Oklahoma to take the next step which is to finalize the negotiation and see where it goes from there.
