Saturday School Option Approved By State

OKC, OK - The Oklahoma State Board of Education approved a Saturday school option, during a special meeting Thursday morning.
-
The Saturday School option was approved with a five to two vote. The option authorizes school to be taught on Saturday and count for attendance purposes in meeting the school year requirements for the 2020-2021 school year.
-
Current state statute prohibited schools from using Saturday classes to count toward attendance requirements. The State approval is just an option to districts and will not be a requirement.
-
State Superintendent Joy Hofemeister said she wants schools to prepare multiple calendars for the fall, in case of another outbreak.
-
Oklahoma schools canceled in-person classes in mid-March and moved to distance learning as the COVID-19 crisis began to spread.
