Due to covid -19 concerns, there will be a private family service for Sammy J. Mankin, 80 year-old Enid resident at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Sammy was born August 19, 1940 in Harrison, Arkansas to Ernie and Mary (Page) Mankin and died Sunday, January 17, 2021 in his home in Enid. He attended Jefferson City, MO. schools and graduated from Jefferson City High School with the class of 1958. He was an accomplished football, basketball and track star in High School.
On October 21, 1961 he married Lovel “Nita” McCray in Jefferson City and the couple made their home in Enid. Along with his wife, he owned and operated the Wagon Wheel restaurant from 1959 to 1988. Sammy was an avid golfer, fisherman, and was known as the “gin rummy master”.
He is survived by his sons; Rob Mankin and wife Kelly of Ashland City, TN. and Mark Mankin of the home. 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, 7 great-grandchildren and two on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Nita in 2017.
Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the charity of the donors choice.
