Rural Fire Sales Tax Vote

GARFIELD COUNTY, OK - Voters will head to the polls for the Special Election on Tuesday, November 14 for the Garfield County Rural Fire Departments Sales Tax. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This is NOT a new tax. This is a continuation of a tax last passed in 2013. Fire Departments have utilized grants and completed in house maintenance to help with rising cost of equipment and services.

Approval of the ballot would extend the sales tax another 10 years, from 2025 through 2034. It would be one-tenth of a penny, which is the same rate that was approved in the previous extension of the sales tax.

Garfield County has 12 rural fire departments prepared to assist you. There are over 1,868 miles of county roads across Garfield County. For every $10 spent in Garfield County, 1 cent is divided among the 12 departments.

The 12 rural fire departments include: Breckinridge, Covington, Douglas, Drummond, Fairmont, Garber, Hillsdale-Carrier, Hunter, Kremlin, Lahoma, Pioneer-Skeleton Creek and Waukomis.

The Rural Fire Tax money is managed by the Rural Fire Departments, the Garfield County Public Safety Association, the Garfield County Commissioners, along with the assistance of the Garfield County Clerk's Office; therefore. NOT ONE CENT of this tax money is used for administration allowing your tax dollars to be appropriately spent on equipment, supplies, training and operations.
