The services celebrating and honoring the life of Ron Nepstad, 66, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 11, 2022, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have a come and go visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2022, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Ron was born April 6, 1955, to Archie and Rain Nepstad in Rochester, Minnesota and passed from this life December 31, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was raised and educated in Mankato, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of seventeen in 1973. While in the Army he achieved his High School Diploma in in Manheim, Germany. He married Tena Metcalfe March 11, 1976, in Junction City, Kansas and from this union came two daughters, Bobbie and Jamie. He was honorably discharged after five years of service to his country in 1977. He attended VoTech in Junction City and earned his auto body certification. He began working in an auto body shop as a painter. In 1980 the family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he hauled fuel. He was a owner/operator of a fuel truck and worked for Busters Transport and Midwest Oil. He then worked at Atwood’s driving a semi from 1994 to 2007. He met Joy Redding in 1998 the couple was married in April 1999 in Enid. He then worked at Irby Electric for two years and finally as a truck driver at Enid Concrete until his retirement in 2016.
He enjoyed stock car racing and raced cars while stationed in Germany, winning numerous races, and won third in the overall championship. In Enid he was very active with the Enid Speedway and was the Tire man for Coleville Racing for many years and was the speedway flag man from 2004 to 2019. He also enjoyed coin collecting, making marbles to sell in his eBay store, and he loved collecting, repairing, and tinkering with John Deere riding lawn mowers.
He is survived by his wife Joy, of the home, two daughters Bobbi Nepstad, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jamie Litterell and husband Cortney, of Enid, Windy Wood and husband Brad, of Yukon, Chet Redding and spouse Megan, of Blackwell, six grandchildren Anslee and Daegan Litterell, Riley and Reese Wood, and Cash Redding and Macie Shultz; sister Renee Verkerdan and husband Dick, of Mankato, MN, three step siblings, Randy, Russ, Ray, and Roxi Weingartz, of Mankato; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepdad Bob Weingartz,
Memorials may be made in his honor to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) Cancer Division with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
