The funeral service for Roland Rikli, age 96, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 27, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Williams and Everett Ohls officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be 2:00 – 4:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Roland was born to William and Marie (Merkel) Rikli on December 9, 1918 in Murdock, Nebraska, and passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 in Enid.
Roland grew up in Murdock, graduating from high school there. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 200th Field Artillery. With his unit he landed on Omaha Beach on D Day plus two. In May 2014, he was inducted to the Order of St. Barbara of the Field Artillery. After his discharge, he moved to Enid. On December 8, 1946, Roland married Dorothy Scott at Calvary Baptist Church in Enid. They made their home in Enid, and Roland worked for the Champlin Oil Refinery for thirty-seven years before retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since August 1946, serving as deacon and choir member. Roland enjoyed traveling, holidays and special days with his family, and playing croquet. On November 10, 2015, Roland was honored with the Legacy Veteran of the Year Award, U.S. Army, by the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park.
He is survived by daughter Patricia Rikli of St. Louis, Missouri; son Charles Rikli and wife Angela of Melbourne, Florida; two grandchildren, Charles Warren and wife Majella, and Jonathan Warren; and brother Marcus Rikli and wife, Dorothy of Greeley, Colorado; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, sister Bernice Kuehn, and brother Alfred Rikli.
