July 31, 1935 - August 15, 2023
Celebration of Life Service for Robert “Bob” Hays, will be Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:00 am in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery.
Robert was born to Andrew and Mabel Hays on July 31, 1935. He was born in Canon City, Colorado. Bob moved to Enid as a small child (about 5 or 6 years old). He had 4 brothers (Billy, Ernie, Tom and Wayne) and 2 sisters (Merriann and Marie). Billy passed away as a small child and Bob later lost Marie, Merriann, and Ernie.
On July 8, 1971 he married Sondra Hays in Huntsville, Arkansas and they made their home in Enid, Oklahoma. They were married 50 years before she passed away in 2022. Robert had many jobs throughout this lifetime. He delivered milk for Gold Spot. Robert was in the National Guard Reserves also. He was police officer and loved being a motorcycle cop. In his younger years. Robert met Sondra when he was a cop going into a Circle K where she worked. He then went on to finishing concrete for years (which he was very good at by the way). And then he went to work for Enid Public Schools where he did concrete jobs and a little bit of everything.
Bob never met a stranger. He loved to visit with everyone. Sometimes he would run to the grocery store and be gone for hours. His daughters say he had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Cindy said “he was a wonderful caregiver to both her mom and niece”. He would never complain about anything and loved doing “whatever mom told him or ask him to do”. His hobbies included working on antique cars when he was younger. He loved going fishing with his brother-in-law Ronnie Jones. They would pull Ronnie’s boat to Sooner Lake and fish all day. Some of his favorite memories would be all the many trips they took with family to Branson every year. It was always a fun and entertaining time when the Jones, Crites, and Hays families met at Branson. The ladies went shopping and the men went fishing.
Robert was a member of Evangel Assembly of God Church and he loved pastor Lester Lowery very much. The pastor would call him daily and pray with him after Sondra passed away. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Sondra, granddaughter Kandace, parents, sisters, and brothers.
He is survived by daughters: Cindy Presa, Carmela Taylor, Debbie Genereux, and Robin Exton. Also 1 son: Richard Hays. Robert had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even a couple of great, great, grandchildren. Two brothers Wayne Hays and Tom Hays, and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
