Richard Lee Powers

A Celebration of Life for Richard L. “Dick” Powers, is 2:00 pm, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Pastor Ron Olson will officiate with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery. The United States Army will provide military honors. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Dick was born January 22, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Melvin and Helen (Zin) Powers, and passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Dick graduated from Helena High School and Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a Master’s Degree in Administration. He married Barbara Mae Anthony on October 30, 1956 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They lived in various communities before settling in Enid. He and Barbara enjoyed 34 years of marriage until her passing in 1990. He was a teacher and coach in Georgia and Kansas; in Oklahoma he was a counselor at Enid High School, and principal at Longfellow Junior High. He served his country in the United States Army, and then eventually retired from the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Lion’s Club; the American Legion; and the Thunderbird Youth Academy. He farmed in the Helena area with his father, raising cattle and wheat. He married Joann (Westerhoff) Peterson on January 2, 2015 and they made their home in Enid.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Helen Powers; wife Barbara Powers; grandson, James Lee McBride; brother, Jim Powers and sister Cathy Powers Adams. He is survived by his wife Joann Powers, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Barbie Sibit and husband Terry, of Enid; Cindie Clover and husband Jack, of Nash, OK; step-children, Kevin Peterson of Enid; and Sue Peterson, of Chicago, IL; brother, Danny Powers and wife Karen of Middleburg, FL; five grandchildren Jason Clover, of Canton, OK; Nathan Clover and wife Leslie, of Kiowa, KS; Geoffrey McBride and wife Val, of Enid; Shaun Sibit and wife Jen, of O’Fallon, IL; Kari McMahan and husband Barry, of the Netherlands; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Dick’s name in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
