PHOTO: The photo above shows the main entry hallway in front of the library. The blue benches are currently missing and there is major work going on to the display cases and the library.
Monday was the Enid Public schools open house night around town. Although we do not have kids old enough for Enid High school we dropped by to check out the status of the current renovations. We roamed the halls and I snapped a few pictures. We also spoke to several teachers that were very pleased with the progress and feel this year should go off without a hitch.
This article is not to show that there is much to be done, it is to show that much has been done! There is still a good amount of work unfinished but with progress comes inconvenience.
We've been posting photos of Enid High from the years of 1923, 1956 and some from the 90's. The major comment we get from all generations is how unchanged Enid High has been over the decades. We post these pictures to show that this is a major renovation and will post pictures of the completion when done.
Every hallway is getting a major makeover from floor to ceiling. The new flooring looks great and the baseboards add an excellent touch. There is new lighting, new paint and renovations on some displays, walls and seating.
New lockers have been installed much shorter than the old school lockers. These are stacked two high. The old water fountains are gone and the dingy bathrooms have been upgraded.
Even with the new renovations there are areas that will retain that vintage Enid High look. The stair banisters, stairs, some doors and windows will remain. The brick exterior looks great although the bricked in windows are not a public favorite.
All in all we were very impressed with the new look and can't wait to see it in its completion. We'll post more pictures as the renovation progresses.
This is a brand new hallway! This area was the old football lockers and area above the pool. It is now freshly renovated classrooms.
This is the new lighting in some of the hallways.
The main hallway in front of the library. This is where the benches & display cases were.
The 3rd floor is under construction. They are hoping for a December completion.
