Raymond C. McSpadden

raymond-mcspadden-1477662687Raymond C. McSpadden, 93, long time resident of Duncan, died Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Claremore Veteran's Center.

A memorial service will be celebrated at Carter-Smart Funeral Home in Duncan on Friday, November 4, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery near Comanche with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid, Oklahoma.

Raymond was born to Carl and Minnie McSpadden at Loco, Oklahoma on March 9, 1923. Raymond graduated from Comanche High School in 1941, where he starred in basketball, his favorite sport. Ray served during World War II from 1943-1945 and saw action in the European theater in a forward observation light tank. Following his discharge on April 16, 1946, Raymond married Barbara Damron and soon thereafter they moved to Duncan when Raymond began working for Halliburton and they resided in Duncan until June, 2009.

Raymond joined Halliburton in large part to play basketball for its AAU team, the Halliburton Cementers, where he played guard for Halliburton from 1949-1953, during which time the Cementers won 2 Oklahoma AAU titles in 1950 and 1953 and finished runners-up two other years. Ray was twice named to the AAU all-tournament team and was inducted into the Oklahoma AAU Basketball Hall of Fame in Ponca City in 1988. He retired from Halliburton in 1983 and enjoyed his retirement years in Duncan.
Raymond and Barbara were longtime faithful members of First Assembly of God and later Bethel Church until relocating to Enid in 2009. Ray loved golf, card games, meeting friends at the doughnut shops in Duncan and attending Oklahoma Sooner football games.

Raymond is survived by his children, Gary and Ann McSpadden of Tulsa, Carl and Donna McSpadden of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Monte and Richard Burris of Enid; six grandchildren, Scott and Holle McSpadden of Allen, Texas, Todd and Michelle McSpadden of Wildwood, Missouri, Magen and Justin Dodge of Parker, Colorado, Rachel and Aaron Owens of Fort Collins, Colorado, Andrea and Dan Sanders of Kansas City, Missouri, and Amanda and Wade Grimm of Enid, and 18 great grandchildren.

Ray's spouse of almost 69 years, Barbara, preceded him in death in February 2015, as did his two sisters and one brother.
