Record Rainfall In Oklahoma

In early 2015, Enid residents were beginning to wonder if the rains would ever come. At the end of May 2015 they were starting to wonder if they would ever end! Year to date, Enid has received 17.92 inches of rain. 11.48 inches fell in May alone.

May 2015 is now the wettest month on record for the state of Oklahoma (14.40 inches). That beats the previous record by 3.65 inches. The total rainfall for the state was 9.58 inches above normal.

In October of 1941 Oklahoma had an average rainfall of 10.75 inches across the state. Oklahoma City ended the month of May with 19.48 inches, making it the wettest month on record, surpassing the previous record by five inches.

As of Thursday, May 28, the U.S. Drought Monitor reported that no part of Oklahoma is now in severe drought. In fall 2011, nearly 80 percent of the state was in exceptional drought — the most severe on the drought scale.

The Climate Prediction Center’s one- and three-month outlook call for wetter-than-average conditions across the South and Southeast as El Niño builds, which means Oklahoma might not be out of the swamp just yet.
