Postings of Signage on Traffic Control Devices Prohibited

ENID, OK - The City of Enid strongly discourages individuals from posting any notices; including, but not limited to, advertisements for garage sales, promotions, events, or lost pets on official traffic control devices, railroad signs or signals.

The posting of signage on these platforms is considered a violation of Enid Municipal Code, § 6-3-10, Display of Unauthorized Signs, Signals or Markings, and could result in a maximum fine of $500.

There has been a recent increase in illegal postings of signs on traffic devices. City officials remind citizens of both the municipal code and the dangers of placing signage where it does not belong.

The tape used by many citizens to place signage on steel posts and cabinets leaves a residue that bakes into the stainless steel and causes extreme damage to the finish. Signage also creates a distraction for many drivers, which can be deadly.

The City of Enid encourages residents to find creative ways to advertise for events and promotions that fall within the guidelines of the Enid Municipal Code, § 3-14-3E on Garage and Home Sales.

Enid Municipal Code, § 3-14-3E allows for the placement of two temporary signs, no larger than two square feet, on your property two days prior to your garage sale. The signs should not be placed in the right of way or on traffic control devices, but in your yard. Signs must be removed on the last day of the sale.
