Peggy Onita Westfahl (Hedges)

Thursday, November 24th, 1932 - Tuesday, September 21st, 2021

Peggy O. (Hedges) Westfahl, was born November 24, 1932 to Cleo and Mable (Gibson) Hedges in Enid, Oklahoma and passed away at the age of 88 on September 21, 2021. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1950. She married Harold Westfahl on February 15, 1951 in the chapel at the US Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. They lived and farmed in the Drummond/Lahoma community and had two children Jacqueline and Al Lynn. She began working at Enid Livestock, Bond Bakery, and then in payroll and communications at Vance Air Force Base. Peggy retired from VAFB in 1990 after 25 years.

After retirement, Peggy and Harold moved to Gunnison, Colorado, and spent many years traveling, antique shopping, and spending time with their grandchildren in the mountains. Peggy also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, quilting, jig-saw puzzles, and playing cards. She also loved inviting friends and family to Colorado for snow skiing, jeeping, and fishing. After many years, Harold and Peggy returned to Oklahoma and lived in Arcadia, and recently moved back to Enid, but she always begged someone to take her back to Colorado one more time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Hedges-White, and her brother Dean Hedges. She is survived by her husband Harold; brother Clee Jay and wife Pat of Enid, OK; daughter Jacqueline Gray of Grand Forks, ND; son Al Westfahl and wife Jill of Lahoma, OK; four grandchildren, Douglas Gray and wife Lorie of Norman, OK, David Gray and wife Michelle of Broken Arrow, OK, Cody Westfahl and wife Meredith of Enid, OK; and Casie Vos and husband Andrew of Enid, OK; 12 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Christopher, Daxton, and Victoria Gray, Connor Gray, Cooper and Charlee Westfahl, Ruger and Remington Vos, Dustin Scirto, Colton (wife Serena) and Hayden Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Peggy loved Harold so much and was very proud of just celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. A memorial service will not be held at this time, as it was Peggy and Harold’s wish to have a joint service so that their lives may be celebrated together. Peggy’s family would like to thank all her wonderful nurses, doctors, and caregivers. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
