Patsy “Pat” Louea Tippit went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 1, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 17, 1934 in Ada, Oklahoma to Charles and Grace Plumlee. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Pete Tippit of Enid, by her son Tim Tippit and his wife Patty of Edmond, by her daughter Toni Shamley and her husband Terry of Pauls Valley, a sister, Geneva Wilburn of Ada, Oklahoma and a brother John Plumlee and his wife, Bobbi of McKinney, Texas. She is also survived by her four loving grandchildren, Sarah Tippit of Edmond, Andrew Tippit and his wife Edie of Norman, Colby Shamley and his wife Joni of Broken Bow and Richard Shamley and his wife Karena of Pauls Valley, by 6 great grandchildren and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pat grew up in Ada in a warm, loving home surrounded by her parents, her big sister and her younger brother. She attended elementary, junior high and high school in Ada and was proud to be a Cougar. To her dying day, she could sing the Ada High fight song. After graduating from high school, she attended and graduated from East Central State University where she met the love of her life, Pete.

Pete and Pat started a family in Ada but soon moved to Oklahoma City where they lived for 4 years. In 1961, they moved to Enid and have spent their entire adult life there – raising a family, working, making friends and enjoying life.

Pat had three great loves in life – her God, teaching and her family. She was a member of the Garland Road Baptist Church in Enid and so enjoyed her time with all the members of the church. Her parents taught her at an early age the importance of receiving Christ into your life, of living a life with Christian principles and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Our consolation during this time of grief is that she has slipped the surly bonds of this life and now resides with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The second love of her life was teaching. She taught special education for 32 years, first at Cherokee State Park School and then at Coolidge Elementary School in Enid. She was named Teacher of the Year in the Enid Public School System in 1986. Pat had a special way with these special students - she believed they deserved a chance to learn, to grow, to become something more. During her 34 years of teaching, she made numerous life-long friends with many of her fellow teachers. She retired in 1996 but continued teaching part-time for many years after she left Coolidge. She stayed in contact with many of her friends until she passed through phone calls, personal visits or through the monthly luncheons that different retired teacher groups had. In fact, the most recent one in January was one of her favorite luncheons in many years.

Certainly, last but not least, was her family. She loved her family and looked forward to any opportunity to see them, be with them or spend a special day with them. She loved the holidays especially once she and Pete had grandchildren. She loved decorating her house for Christmas and the joy that her family shared during Christmastime was priceless. She so loved the phone calls she got in later life from her grandchildren and listening to the happenings in their lives, their ups and downs and occasionally, doling out a little homespun and well-grounded advice. She had a special place in her heart for her sister and brother – and that link grew stronger as they all aged. Her passing has left a void for all of us which will be difficult to fill.

Services will be held on Friday, February 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Garland Road Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Enid Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, February 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home in Enid. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Enid Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund in Pat’s name.
