Officers injured in accidental shooting

ENID, OK - On September 18th, 2017 at 9:21AM an Enid animal control officer observed a man being attacked by three vicious dogs near 100 N. 17th Street. He called for assistant and additional animal control and Enid police officers responded to the area.
-
During the incident the dog’s owner was able to gain momentary control of the dogs but one broke free and charged a police officer. The officer discharged his shotgun, striking the dog. Unfortunately, several pellets from the buckshot round ricocheted off the street and struck the animal control officer, another police officer, and the dog bite victim who were nearby.
-
The dog bite victim, the animal control officer, and the police officer were all transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where they were treated for minor, mostly superficial injuries. They are expected to be released soon.
No names are being released at this time as we continue to investigate this incident.

My son was chased and knocked down by a pit bull and a mix bread dog at the 300 block of N. 17th about 3 weeks ago. Thankfully my mom heard him yelling and was able to chase them off. Animal control responded but didn’t locate the dogs.
