Van Buren Overpass Lane Closure on Friday

ENID, OK - Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) officials announced Wednesday the temporary closing of one lane on the Highway 81 overpass bridge.
-
According to Jake Hoover of ODOT, in order to safely hang beams over Chestnut Avenue, Bridges Inc. will be limiting traffic on US-60 to one-lane and one-way traffic. Hoover said a flagger would be used to direct traffic utilizing the overpass on Van Buren beginning Friday, March 1st between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 3:00 pm.
-
The North Van Buren overpass bridge takes traffic over seven BNSF Railway tracks. The bridge was built in 1957 and today has over 14,000 vehicles cross it every day.
-
An $11 million contract was awarded to replace the structurally deficient bridge in mid-2018. There is an estimated 15-month timetable needed to complete the bridge.
-
The bridge is being replaced on half at a time beginning with the east side. The bridge will continue to allow for traffic to cross at all times during the construction period. Demolition on the bridge began in September 2018.
