NOC hires Aaron Butcher to lead Jets men’s program

NOC Enid has hired Aaron Butcher to lead the Jets men’s basketball program.

ENID, OK - Athletic director Jeremy Hise formally announced the hiring Wednesday.
Butcher has spent the last six seasons at Ancilla Domini College, a two year college in Donaldson, Indiana. At Ancilla, Butcher led the Chargers to a 113-65 (.634 winning percentage), the Chargers were 29-3 in 2018 and were conference champs. They were also ranked #1 in Division II during the 2018 season. The Chargers increased their win total in each of Butcher’s six years from eight wins in 2013 to 29 in 2018.

Butcher replaces Greg Shamburg who coached the Jets 17 years.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Northern Oklahoma Enid family,” Butcher said. “I want to thank Dr. Evans, Dr. Stinson, and Jeremy Hise for the opportunity to lead the Northern Oklahoma Enid basketball program.”

“I also want to thank Coach Shamburg for the 17 years of service that he dedicated to the Jets program,” Butcher added. “I was very impressed with the quality of people that we met during the interview process. From the second I stepped foot on campus there was a definitely a family feel.”
“My family and I are looking forward to getting settled in and becoming part of the Enid community, he added. “I am extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish at Ancilla, and look forward to what we can accomplish in Enid.”

NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans is excited to have coach Butcher a part of the NOC family.

“Northern is excited to have Aaron join our college community,” Evans said. “I look forward to his leadership. He appreciates the high academic and athletic experiences we value for our players. He inherits a strong program and we believe that he will build on the successful tradition of the Jets Men's team as its second coach in history.”

Athletic director Jeremy Hise is also excited for Butcher’s arrival at NOC.

“We are very excited that Aaron, Alison and their family have decided to join the Northern family,” Hise said.
“Aaron has been very successful leading the Ancilla program to national prominence while elevating the team’s academic performance each year as well,” Hise added. “That is exactly what we value at Northern and I know that Aaron will continue to bring in high quality students who are also excellent people and basketball players our college and our community can be proud.”

In addition to all of the success on the floor at Ancilla, the program also achieved great success in the classroom and found success in sending their players to the four year level after their time at Ancilla. In each of the last three seasons, the team has set program records for team GPA.

During Butcher’s previous five years at Ancilla, the Chargers have had 22 players named to an all-conference team, and have had 20 players move on to compete at four year colleges and universities, including two players who accepted full NCAA D1 scholarship offers after playing for the Chargers.

Coach Butcher is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), and the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA). Butcher received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University.

Butcher will meet with Jets players next week.
