ENID, OK - Enid Public Schools has named Tech Sgt. Michael Nelson to the head volleyball coach position at Enid High School. Board of Education members approved the hire during their regular meeting Monday night.

Nelson has been with the district since March of 2017 and has served as the aerospace science instructor at EHS with the Junior Air Force ROTC since January 2018.

Nelson previously served as a Pacer middle school and junior varsity volleyball coach. EPS Athletic Director Billy Tipps said Nelson will be an excellent leader for the high school team.

“Coach Nelson has an intense commitment and passion for the game,” said Tipps. “His sincere interest in our student athletes will be a winning combination that will strengthen our volleyball program and support our efforts to develop and retain student athletes at Enid High School.”
In addition to his experience with EPS, Nelson has served as a coach for the Oakwood Volleyball League since 2015. He is a retired Air Force veteran and has been instrumental in establishing a growing ROTC program at EHS.

“I have always enjoyed coaching because it gives me an opportunity to play a pivotal role in each athlete’s life,” Nelson said. “I am extremely excited about coaching these girls because I believe we have the ability to compete on the state championship level. I am grateful to the district, school board, Mr. Darrow, and Coach Tipps for giving me this opportunity.”
