A Celebration of Life for Nellie M. Mena, age 85, of Enid, is 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Willow Road Christian Church with Pastor Carrell Still officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 23rd at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Nellie was born May 1, 1933 in Enid to August and Gladys (Hunt) Drechsler, and passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Enid.

Nellie graduated from Cleo Springs High School, then began her nurses training at Enid General Hospital which is now Integris Bass Baptist Hospital. She worked as a floor nurse and a surgical nurse at Integris Baptist Hospital and then worked as a surgical nurse for over 27 years at St. Mary’s Hospital. She married Bernard Mena April 26, 1956 in Enid where they made their home and raised their two children, Tony and Dana. Nellie loved to work in her garden, where she ‘planted a forest’ at her last address. She also loved to sew, making all the kids clothes for Christmas one year. She was a long-time member of Willow Road Christian Church. Along with tending her garden, Nellie enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Donald C. Drechsler. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bernard Mena, of Enid; two children, Tony Mena, of Stillwater; Dana Johnson and husband Ron, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Andrea Johnson and Ethan Johnson, both of Ft. Smith; two brothers, Gene Drechsler and wife Dodie, of Magnum, Ok; Robert Drechsler and wife Ireta, of Wichita, Kansas; and a sister, Ellen Schuermann and husband Roy, of Pond Creek; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Memorials in Nellie’s name may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Alzheimer’s Division or Ross Hospice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
