ENID, Okla. - National Night Out is an annual event that takes place on the first Tuesday of August as America's night out against crime. Many cities across the United States celebrate the nation's premiere crime prevention event.
-
National Association of Town Watch sponsors National Night Out, which involves millions of people across 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
-
The event is held to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie in the fight for a safer nation. The traditional "lights on" campaign and front porch vigils let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back!
-
We do not know of any special plans going on in Enid this year but you can participate by leaving your porch light on. We've also got a list of things you can do year round to help prevent neighborhood crime.
-
- Get to know your neighbors. If you don't get out much, try www.nextdoor.com.
- Keep an eye on crime trends and help spread the word on social media.
- Report any suspicious activity as quickly as possible.
- Watch your neighbors house when they are on vacation.
- Make sure your street is well lit at night.
- Lock the doors on all vehicles parked outside.
- Keep your garage door closed.
- Keep shrubbery trimmed to eliminate hiding places.
- Consider installing a burglar alarm.
- Don't hide a key somewhere near your front or back door.
