The Military graveside service honoring the life of Moses Richard Box Lt. Col. Ret. U.S.A.F., 92, of Enid will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday June 29, 2017 in Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born August 28, 1924 to Malcom and Mildred Pursley Box in Union City, Tennessee and passed from this life June 27, 2017 in Enid, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educated in Union City, and graduated from Union City High School with the class of 1942. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in WWII with the 63rd Division, nicknamed “Blood and Fire” for their efforts in helping protect the east flank of the Seventh Army along the Rhine river. He then enlisted in the Mississippi Army ROTC and then re-enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received his Master’s in Civil and Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University. On December 30, 1951, he married Betty Coulson in Enid, Oklahoma.

He served as Chief of the engineering section of the Air Installations Squadron in Keflavik, Iceland from November 1953 – November 1954. He served as the Project Officer, Test Division of the Titan Program Office Ballistic Systems Division from March 1960 – September 1963. May 1967 – July 1968 He was the Chief of the Systems Engineering Section, Missile and Space Division, Directorate of Aerospace Safety.

August 1968 – August 1969 he was the Assistant for Air Force, Range Programs Office, White Sands Missile Range. He then served as the Air Force Missile Development Center Test Manager for F-15 and AIM-82 at the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. At the same Air Force Base, he also served as Chief of the Support Requirements Branch, SRAM Division, 6585th Test Group, and Deputy Commander of the same Test Group. He then moved to Enid and from April 1974 – April 1978 he worked as Construction Coordinator with Henson Construction. From April 1978 – May 1981 he was an Engineer with Davies and Poe Inc., June 1981 – July 1981 he was Chief Engineer of Northrop Worldwide Aircraft Services with Vance Air Force Base, and July 1981 – September 1984 he was the Director of the Civil Engineering with Northrop and was the Vice President Chief Engineer of Healy Southwest

He is survived by his wife; Betty, daughter; Kathi, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Samuel, brother; Malcom Oratus Jr., sister; Mary Franklin.

Memorials can be made in his name to the United Methodist Church Boys Ranch of Gore, Oklahoma with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
