April 6, 1955 - March 9, 2024
On April 6, 1955, in Enid, OK, George & Wilma McCormick welcomed into the world Monte Craig McCormick. On Saturday, , March 9, 2024 the loving arms of Jesus welcomed him into his eternal home of Heaven, with his family by his side.
The youngest of three children, Monte grew up active in sports, playing baseball, football, and was a member of the Boy Scouts. He was a member of Willow Road Christian Church, baptized at the age of 10. Also at 10, his dad took him fishing for the 1st time, then at 12 took him duck hunting. These quickly would become two of his lifelong loves. Hunting & fishing would also gift Monte a host of friends over the years, including that of his best friend, Mark Klasing, whose friendship was his most treasured for over 50 years.
Monte attended Monroe Elementary, Emerson Jr High, and then graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1973. In his early adult years, he worked in the oilfield, then in 1992, Monte would graduate NWOSU with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Although limited by physical disability, Monte was able to work for Enid Public Schools as a member of the support staff for over 19 years, a job he greatly enjoyed.
Following in his dad’s footsteps, Monte was a member of the Masonic Lodge #80. He became a 3rd degree Mason in 1992, getting pinned by his dad. This was only fitting, seeing as how his dad was his mentor, and, as he would say, the greatest man he ever knew.
Monte’s first marriage gave him two daughters, Tiffany & Alysha. In 2002 he met his soulmate, the love of his life, Anita. The two would marry in 2006. With this, he gained two more daughters, Larra & Rebecca. Monte & Anita brought out the best in each other, and she never left his side.
Those who greeted him in heaven include his parents, George & Wilma, and his brother Richard.
Those left behind, to meet him another time include his wife Anita, daughters Tiffany Taylor, and her husband Lance, Larra Koehn, Rebecca Koehn, and Alysha Hoisington. Grandchildren - Taylor, Maygan, Madison, Amber, Dustin, Michael, Daytona, Tyler, Avah, Zoey, & Brylee. Great-grandchildren - Aleigha, Zoey, & Oliver. Sister- Lynn Rainelle (Rainy) Vancoevering (Lary), mother-in-law Jody Feeley, and a multitude of coisins, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
The family would also like to recognize Valir, and all of the devoted nurses who provided Monte with the utmost care and compassion the last 16 months.
Monte was a devoted cat lover. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Cat Clinic in his memory. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024 in House of Grace with Pastors Ryan Nelson and Jake Linehart officiating.. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Visitation with family present will be held from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the funeral home.
