CSMRA Enid Rail Heritage Day
Saturday, October 10, the model railroad club (Cherokee Strip Model Railroad Association) is hosting their first annual Enid Rail Heritage Day at their layout opposite the Food Court at Oakwood Mall. The event runs from 12:30-4:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate our city's and state's railroad heritage and to educate the public about safety around railroad property and crossings. The afternoon will feature an operating session on our HO-scale layout with club members switching cars at the various industries on the layout; Operation Lifesaver presentations; a session by Oklahoma author Sheldon Russell who will discuss research and writing techniques he uses in his "Hook Runyon" railroad detective series (his books are available at Hastings and he will be glad to personalize them at the event); an interactive switching layout that individuals can operate; a train simulator that will also be available for the public to operate; representatives from at least one Oklahoma passenger rail organization; free informational material from Amtrak; and much more.

Also on Saturday, October 10, Sheldon Russell will appear at the Enid Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to speak to the public, especially aspiring and practicing writers, about his experiences as a published author. The session is free and open to the public. As noted above, Sheldon (along with his wife Nancy, an accomplished artist and sculptress) will be part of Enid Rail Heritage Day, speaking about his railroad writing experiences from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Cherokee Strip Model Railroad Association's space directly opposite the Food Court at Oakwood Mall.

Wrapping up the day, Sheldon will be greeting folks and signing copies of his books at Hastings (610 S. Cleveland) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Copies of Sheldon's books can be purchased from the store and he will autograph them during that time.
