After 48 very successful years, Kip Miles is closing the doors on Miles Music. The family business began when Miles was only 11 years old. Miles is proud to be going out on top and credits his families customer service for the decades of success.
The family business made its way into the Enid area in 1966 but did not receive a warm welcome. The local paper at first declined to print an ad for the piano business due to the loyalty they had with established music stores in town. Miles hired an attorney and eventually had his advertisement published.
The entire family participated in the music business eventually opening multiple stores. Miles credits much of their success to sales beyond the local area including shipments of merchandise across the country and throughout the world.
Digital and grand pianos were the mainstay of Miles Music but they also sold guitars and sound systems. Business has actually picked up since Miles announced his retirement. He sites the fact that many people, on the fence about buying a new instrument, want to deal with a family business that has an established reputation.
Miles is looking to have the doors closed around the end of February. He knows he'll miss the loyal customers that have kept them going, even during the years of the oil bust. Miles has also been the go to guy for loaner pianos and PA systems. Many organizations in town will be at a loss once the store is closed.
Through the years, Miles has created a very impressive customer service record and has relied on positive word-of-mouth marketing to drive his sales. He feels that hanging up his ivory keys while the business is on top is the perfect way to retire.
