The funeral service for Michael N. Britt, 65, of Enid, Okla., will held 10:00 A.M. Monday January 11, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph, Enid, Okla. The Rev. Devon Krause will officiate. Mike was born in Enid on November 13, 1955, to Norman and Artie Britt and passed from this life January 1, 2021.
He graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1974, where he played French horn in the band. Mike graduated with a B.A. degree in history from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity, and formed life-long friendships.
As a child he loved reading and making model airplanes. His love of reading and his passion for knowledge continued throughout his life. He spent much of his working life in stores that matched his interests. He worked in hobby shops in Oklahoma City before buying the hobby, book and gift store Enid News & Stationery. He also worked in Sears for a number of years.
Mike showed great devotion by caring for his parents in the last few years of their lives. He helped his father live actively through the five years he had cancer. After his parents died, Mike found fulfilment in working with special needs students at Waller Middle School, where he was once a student himself.
He was an active member of the Church Family at First United Methodist Church. He was one of the volunteers with the church’s Project Transformation which offers youth from low-income families eight weeks of meals, mentorship and literacy enhancement.
Mike was diagnosed with cancer in November 2020 and died on January 1, 2021 at the OU Medical Center. His remains will be laid to rest later at the church’s Columbarium, reflecting his wish to be a permanent part of the church family he loved so much.
Mike is survived by his brother Rev. Bill Britt and his wife, Theresa, and their three sons Tom, Alex and Hugh, to each of whom he was a devoted uncle. Mike was a kind and gentle person and was devoted to his immediate and large extended families. He was valued and loved by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.
