Graveside services for Merl Dean Horner, 72, Enid, will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Steve Meier officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Silver Talon Honor Guard at Vance Air Force Base. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

Merl was born on December 19, 1944 in Vici, Oklahoma, the son of Ernest Everet and Ruby Pauline Hindman Horner, and passed away peacefully on July 24, 2017 in Oklahoma City.

He was raised in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from West High School with the class of 1963. Merl served his country in the United States Air Force and married Kathern Joan Henson in Wichita, Kansas. They were stationed in Puerto Rico and retired in 1982 at Nelis Air Force Base, in North Las Vegas. After retirement, he graduated from Education Dynamics Institute and was offered a teaching job there. They then moved to Enid to be close to family. Merl worked at Advance Food Company from 1993, retiring in 2014.

Merl was a member of USO. Survivors include his children, Sabrina Bays of Midwest City, Oklahoma, sons Dwayne Horner of Enid and Timothy Horner of Maryville, Tennessee; Brother, Donald Ray Horner of New York; sisters, Kay Horner and Geraldine Witzke, both of Enid; Merl was preceded in passing by his parents, and his wife.
