Carousel
The carousel and horses are owned by the city of Enid. It resides in a covered building 60 feet in diameter and 18-20 feet tall. The Kiwanis have operated it since 1982.
The ride is a Allan Herschell Classic Wood Carousel built in 1925 and last renovated in 2012. It is a three row, half and half that has 27 Jumping Horses, 3 Standing Horses and 2 chariots. Three half sized kiddie horses are on the carousel.
The carousel has all original matching horses. The carousel originally ran clockwise. It has an electric motor which was reversed in 2002 so carousel now runs counterclockwise which is more common for carousel rides.
The ride originally may have come from a carnival in Houston. It eventually made its way to Hellum's Amusement Park north of Enid in 1928. The carousel was given to the city of Enid in 1965, when it was moved to Meadowlake Park where it sits today.
Kiwanis Train
The Meadowlake Train has been a staple in Enid for decades. It circles Meadowlake Park which covers 110 acres of land. The train crosses two train bridges and goes through one train tunnel covering both north and south sides of the park.
The train is made up of an engine and three cars. The first car is the Meadowlake Flyer, the second is the City of Enid Express and the last car is the Kiwanis Special.
The train is red with portions of the engine being powder blue. The train conductor rides on a seat at the back of the engine. The train is housed in train station on the north side of the park.
The Meadowlake Train leaves the station and travels across a bridge to the south side of the park where it enters a tunnel. It then travels along the waters edge and crosses another bridge on the west side of the lake bringing it back to the north side of the park. There it makes a loop and travels back across the bridge. On its return the train does not travel back through the tunnel but does cross the east bridge and returned to the station.
