ENID, OK  – Enid Mayor Bill Shewey gave the State of the City address on Wednesday, April 17 in front of a full crowd at the Stride Bank Center. The event began with a buffet lunch and music by the City of Enid Choir.

Mayor Shewey thanked the audience for joining him in acknowledging the accomplishments of the City over the past year. He started with the ongoing road construction sites including the Highway 81 overpass, Cleveland Road and the completion of W. Willow.

"Enid is home to an abundance of different shops and restaurants serving over 130,00 people weekly," Shewey said, "Enid is a great place full of growth." He pointed out the advances on the downtown Best Western Glo hotel and said it was expected to open later this year. It has been an eight year project and he stated that they weren't giving up.

Great Plains Bank merged with Liberty Federal Savings Bank in May of 2018 and has two locations. The Kaw water project is currently in phase three of the 70 mile pipeline and will supply water to Enid for the next 50 years.

Shewey mentioned eateries that had been mentioned on Discover Oklahoma and pointed out that Southard House B&B had been named to the Reader's Digest list of the most charming small town B&B in every state. Land Run Steakhouse was opened it doors in September of 2018.

Mayor Shewey spoke briefly about the movies "Wildlife" and "To The Stars" being filmed in Enid. He also spoke about the modernization of the ADM Flour Mill. Other companies doing well included Johnston Seed Co., Jiffy Trip, INTEGRIS Cancer Institute and the Enid Brewing Company.

Other accomplishments highlighted included the Woodring Airport terminal, Enid High School Gymnasium & Performing Arts Center, Vance AFB increasing pilot training and the $1.3 billion expansion of the Koch Nitrogen Plant east of Enid. The Enid Soccer Complex is only two years away.

Mayor Shewey finished by saying, "The future is bright for the City of Enid, may God bless you, may God bless Enid, and may God bless America, this is another great day in Enid, Oklahoma."

Two time Governor Frank Keating then spoke to the audience. He spoke about working with Sen. Norman Lamb and his son, Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb, both from Enid. Keating talked about the strength of Oklahoma after the OKC bombing of the Murrah Federal Building.

Gov. Keating was made an honorary member of the Enid Walk of Fame and was presented a check for $500 to help fund the American Indian Cultural Center in OKC.
