Graveside services for Mary Lee Maehr, 78, former Enid resident, will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in the Enid Cemetery with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
Mary was born on November 5, 1943 in Ames, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Lee and Mary Ellen (Westfahl) Turner, and passed away peacefully on August 18, 2022 in Tulsa. She was raised and educated in Ames, Oklahoma, graduating from Ames High School with the class of 1962. Mary was a member of the 1962 State Baskeball Champions. She attended Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva where she met her future husband, John Edward Maehr. They married on October 19, 1963 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Goltry. John’s job allowed them to go on an adventure, starting in Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Missouri, Casper, Wyoming and many others. They moved back to Oklahoma City. Moving to Enid in 1980. John and Mary owned The Sign Shop in Enid for many years. Mary was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Girl Scout Leader for several years, and loved being a mom.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie and husband John Hooper of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Angela and husband Kenneth Stowell of Jenks, Karen Maehr of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Chelsea and husband Kane Smith of Tulsa, Jordan Houston of Tulsa, Joshua Gee of Korea; one great-grandson, Turner Smith of Tulsa; sister, Margaret and husband John Barton of Alva, Oklahoma, Karyl and husband Jack Haines of Waukomis; brother, Jim and wife Debbie Turner of Enid; aunt, Billie Marcoux of Enid; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in passing by her parents and husband, John.
Memorials in Mary’s memory can be made to the donor’s wishes.
