Marumi "Mariko" Williams

Funeral service for Marumi “Mariko” Williams age 87, of Enid, will be 11:00 AM, Monday, December 19, 2016 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Burris will be officiating.

Mariko was born January 17, 1929, in Ikata Town, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, to Tanjiro and Kohisa (Takahashi) Higashida, and passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Enid.

Mariko married John Williams on March 14, 1952, in Fukuoka City, Japan. Since John was in the Air Force they lived in Washington, D.C, Alaska, North Carolina, Georgia and Texas. After John’s retirement, from the Air Force, they made their home in Denver, Co, where Mariko became involved in her church, becoming a member of the ladies bible study, and the church choir. She was an accomplished seamstress working with Denver’s elite clientele at Auers Store, until she retired in September 2000. In March 2002 they moved to Enid, where Mariko enjoyed origami, water color painting, needlepoint and vegetable gardening.

Mariko is survived by her sisters Miyoko Higashida, Keiko Utsunomiya, Kazuko Arakane, and Kiyoko Umeno all of Japan; many nieces and nephews in Japan, and in Oklahoma, and Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and brother Minoru Higashida.
