Marilyn Sue (Duckett) Knaus, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning,January 13th, at Touro Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Marilyn was the granddaughter of original settlers of the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma through grandparents on both sides of her family. She was born on March 30, 1942, to Audrey Muir Duckett and Harold Frank Duckett.She grew up in Enid, OK and graduated from Enid High School in 1960. She attended Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, before completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at Little Rock University in 1964. That degree fell in line with a family of mostly teachers. She married Darrel Emmett Knaus in 1963. She taught lower and middle school math and/or science in Little Rock, AR, New Orleans, LA, Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX, and Bedford, TX and the 2005-2006 St. Vincent’s School yearbook was dedicated to her. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Dr. Tracey Ann Knaus and her husband, Mr. Steven Lee Hatley and her grandchildren Delilah Grace Knaus and Emmet Gray Knaus of New Orleans, LA, her son Mr. Robert Frank Knaus, of Plano, TX, and her sister, Mrs. Portia Ann Potts and her husband, Mr. William Potts, IV of Lansdale, PA.
Marilyn moved to New Orleans shortly after the passing of Darrel, to Vista Shores (Summer House). Moving to New Orleans was hard, but true to Marilyn’s spirit, she made several friends and was able to be an amazing grandmother, where she enjoyed playing boardgames and making muffins for the grandkids. Her health was a constant battle, even before moving to New Orleans, but she took it all in stride. With every set back she was determined to get back on track, continually fighting and in control, making decisions, until her unexpected end. She had a determination in life that was second to none and always pushed herself to get better.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 29, 2024 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.
Reverend Gail Edmison will be officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
