The Private Graveside Service Celebrating the life of Margarete (Reuss) Church, 94, of Enid will be held in the Lyndon Center Cemetery, Lyndonville, Vermont, at a future date to be determined. Complete Cremation Care is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
She was born in Plauen/Vogtland, Germany, on August 20, 1921 and passed away on January 1, 2016 in Enid. Margarete lived in Germany for the first 37 years of her life. She survived World War II and immigrated to the United States in 1958 to be with her daughter and first grandson. She worked as a factory worker for AC Gilbert Company, and at Marlin Firearms where she met and later married her husband Harold Church. She then worked as a house keeper at Yale New Haven Hospital until her retirement. She and Harold were married for 25 years, living in Lyndonville, Vermont until Harold's passing. In 2006, Margarete moved to Enid, Oklahoma to live with to live with her first grandson and enjoy spending time with her first great-great granddaughter. Margarete was a warm, giving person who never met a stranger. She loved to travel and see new places. Always ready with a big smile, she especially loved children, and they loved her. Margarete lived the last few years of her life in the Grace Memory Unit and North Hall at the Commons and developed many friendships with the caring staff and the families there. We will miss you, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Church, parents Erwin and Helene Schramm, older sister Klara Thumm and her brother Siegfried Schramm (Reutlingen, Germany). She is survived by, her daughter Brigitte Lade and husband Helmut (Cape Coral, Florida), her son Volker Reuss (Lyndonville, Vermont) and step-sons Raymond and wife Pat (Calabash, North Carolina) and Norman Church. Margarete is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
