Margaret was born April 6, 1922 in Douglas, Oklahoma, to Dr. H.G. and Olive Parker. Her grandparents Parker were some of the first settlers in Garfield County. Her father, Homer Parker, opened his medical practice in what was then Onyx in 1904. Margaret had three sisters: her twin Martha Lee, Ruth Parker Moseley, and Marion Parker Dunn. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1939. In her senior year she was Vice-President of her class and throughout high school she was active in 4-H and basketball. Her college degree was in early childhood education/ home economics from then Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. As a college freshman, she met the love of her life, Ansel Cowan. They married in January 1942 before Ansel enlisted in the Army Air Corp. They were married 71 years when he died in November 2013.
After the war, Ansel was employed by Haliburton Company as a diesel mechanic and shop foreman and was assigned to various areas in the South including Haynesville and Vidalia, Louisiana; Laurel, Mississippi and Flomaton, Alabama. The couple lived in Atmore, Alabama, for thirty years before deciding to retire in their native Oklahoma. They moved to Golden Oaks Village in 2002.
Margaret had several passions in life: her family, her church community, and college basketball. One of her treasured possessions in her last years was her OSU blanket. She and Ansel, in their early retirement, enjoyed traveling and doing mission work through their Baptist Church. Margaret was dearly loved as a kind, gentle person who always was thinking of others. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
