Man Arrested For Carrying Rifle On Willow

ENID, OK - On December 6, 2016 at 11:25 A.M., the Enid Police Department received more than eleven calls from concerned citizens, who were reporting a male subject wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying a rifle while walking through the Willow Lake addition and then eastbound on west Willow.

Officer’s Atchley and Moore made contact with the subject in the 2400 block of west Willow and he immediately put the rifle down and informed them that he was carrying two handguns.  Officers discovered that the male was a Russell Anderson age 35 who stated that he was just going for a walk and felt he was within his right to carry the rifle in public.  The rifle Anderson was carrying was magazine loaded, but not chamber loaded.  Officers arrested Mr. Anderson for the unlawful carry of the rifle in public. Anderson had his conceal carry license to carry the handguns.

Anderson was carrying a back pack that contained several magazines with 223 caliber rounds, along with several lose 223 caliber and 22 caliber rounds and two bottles of water.  On Anderson’s person were three knives and several loaded magazines for the pistols, along with magazines for the 22 caliber rounds and a 22 caliber converter for the rifle and more 223 loaded magazines and loaded magazines for the handguns.

Police questioned Anderson who said he was not out to harm anyone, that he was just going for a walk and felt he was being lawful and if he violated the law, then he would have to face the consequences.  Anderson was transported to the Garfield County Detention Center after his arrest.  Police also found that Anderson was coming from a relative’s residence in the Willow Lake Addition and police checked and found everyone was safe at the residence.
