July 3, 1925 - January 5, 2022
Mother Lucy Ann Owens, daughter of the late Heard Osborne and Eletta Edward-Osborne was born July 3, 1925 in Marshall, Texas. She attended public schools in Marshall, TX., where she met and married Prestee Bradden after finishing school. To this union two sons were born, Oscar Lee Bradden and Herbert Lee Bradden. She later moved to Oklahoma in the late 1940’s and settled in Enid, Oklahoma where she met and married Raymond U. Owens. To this union Debra Lea Owens joined the family.
As a young adult, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was saved, under the pasturage of Elder Hulon Mitchell. She joined Church #2 Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Douglas Addition, which was later renamed West-Side COGIC where she was a dedicated member. She continued to faithfully serve at West-Side COGIC under the leadership of Elder Lee Boyd, Supt. Jimmie L. Norwood and Supt. Derwin L. Norwood, Sr. as a Prayer Warrior, Church Mother, Prayer and Bible Band President, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, YPWW President and Primary Class Teacher. Mother Owens loved working in the church. She loved to cook for her Pastors and their families, visiting Evangelists and church dinners. For many years she faithfully cleaned the church interior, she took care of the plants/flowers, and cut the church lawn. She was known for professionally cleaning the hardwood floors with a precision shine. Mother Owens faithfully went to noon day prayer until her health began to decline.
Mother Owens always instructed the saints that, “We can make it with the help of the Lord.”
Mother Lucy Owens retired from St. Mary’s Hospital as a Supervisor of Housekeeping after 52 years of service. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Saintly life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
