Funeral services for John Shafer, 86 of Enid, will be Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10:00 am in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 11:30 am in Wakita Cemetery, Wakita, Oklahoma.
John was born on December 2, 1933 in Anthony Kansas to Lolita and Alva Shafer and died on December 1, 2020 in Enid.
John grew up east of Wakita and graduated from Wakita High School. He went to Oklahoma Panhandle College, Goodwell in 1952, returning home and working in harvest. John enlisted into the U.S. Army, serving in Germany for 15 months. After his discharge, he worked at Beach Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas until 1964. He returned to Wakita area and worked for Thornhill & Lewis Cink and Leonard Gibson until 1984. He married Cleta Tisdale on August 14, 1977. John worked for Rodney Frieouf at the station until his retirement in 1995. They moved to Enid in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
John is survived by his wife, Cleta; two daughters and their husbands, Rhonda and Bobby Ray, Debra and George Highfill; five granddaughters, four great grandchildren; brother and wife, Larry and Cheryl Shafer; other relatives and friends.
Memorials maybe made through Anderson-Burris to Wakita Methodist Church.
