Louis D. Ediger was born to Dave and Lottie Warkentin Ediger on September 19, 1936 at home near Kremlin, OK. and passed away at his home in Enid, OK on December 1, 2021 at the age of 85.
The family moved to Enid when Louis was a baby and he grew up attending Sunny Slope country school where he rode his horse “Old Paint” for about two miles to class. He also attended Taft Elementary and Emerson Middle School in Enid. Louis graduated high school from Corn Bible Academy in Corn, Ok in 1954.
While attending CBA Louis met Jean Hamm and after graduation the two were united in marriage. This union was blessed with their children Annette, Lawrence and Arleta.
Louis was proud of his Mennonite heritage and as a conscientious objector chose to serve his country by working as a surgical orderly at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Co. He loved the work and was asked to stay on, but he knew he wanted to return to Enid to farm with his dad and brothers. Louis spent his life farming and raising cattle at Jefferson, OK. He was active in the community by driving a school bus for the Jefferson school and being a Volunteer Fireman. Louis served on the Mennonite Relief Sale Committee, he also served on the board of directors for the Grant County Conservation District and was a charter member of the Wheatland Resource Conservation and Development organization. Louis was an active rancher member of the Grand National Quail Hunt and reveled in the activities and camaraderie of friends and hunters.
In 1998 Louis married Judy Neuenschwander McNutt. The couple moved to Enid when Louis retired from farming and ranching.
Survivors include his wife Judy, of the home; children Annette (Kenton) Gossen, Corn, OK; Lawrence (Jacque) Ediger, Tulsa, OK; Arleta (Tim) Nickel, Corn, OK. Brothers Loyd (Marlene)Ediger, Enid, OK and Richard (Jill) Ediger, Placida, FL. Step sons Jeff (Keela) McNutt, Nicoma Park, OK and Jad McNutt, Enid, OK. Ten grand and step grandchildren; nine great-grand and step great-grands with a couple more on the way.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Lottie Ediger and granddaughter Breawna Nickel.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 held at Ladusau- Evans Chapel with Rev. Andy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Enid, OK under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice Circle of Love with the Ladusau -Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians.
